We went from Hollnad (Bergenopzoom) heading to invade Walcheren Island, where they held guns able to shell the ships going into Antwerp.
We boarded landing craft and landed at Flushing under heaby opposition where most of our landing crafts were sunk.
The landing craft my group were on carried one ton of high explosives, I remember we had to machine gun the windmill in case of snipers.
Most of our weapons had become clogged with sand making them unusable-I remember we actually captured some Germans using an inoperable gun.
It was suggested by the Germans that Commandos didn鈥檛 take prisioners that was not so.
After heavy gunfire we found a lot of our craft sunk, we had no alternative but to wade ashore and proceed on foot.
We eventually reached Walchenen and we in the vicinity for eight days undetected. I was at that point seconded to the Norwegian Commandos as a radio operator.
Walcheren was taken.
