I was a "bugger" for asking people to my house for tea and cakes mostly forces personnel I was only 8 years old at the time.
Ottow was a prisoner of war based at Ace Conference Centre, Ripley, Derbyshire I met him at the Park one Sunday afternoon as he managed to have a day out not very common for a POW. He asked for a light for his cigeratte, I asked him to come to our house so I could ask my father if he could stay for tea.
Our friendship started then and there we visited his home in Germany met his wife Gisler for a holiday and I knew him as soon as saw him at the airport baring in mind I had not seen him for over 55 years. We were in contact exchanging christmas cards and letters right up until about 3 years ago, I presume he must have passed away. I made a true friend in Ottow.
