This story appears courtesy of and with thanks to The Liverpool Diocesan Care and Repair Association and James Taylor.

He said: 鈥淢am I want to come home, I鈥檓 with some awful dirty boys.鈥 His head was crawling. When my daughters were evacuated, they went to Shrewsbury but they weren鈥檛 there long. This lady that they went to stay with, she said she was getting tired of the children, she said she only wanted the one, my eldest girl, so that she would look after her daughter. I said: 鈥淚鈥檓 not leaving one of my girls, they鈥檙e coming home together.鈥 The youngest one was too young to be evacuated then鈥 I wouldn鈥檛 let them go anywhere or stay with anybody. The next time they went away they were very nice. They went on a farm (in Wales) a small holding, they had sheep and cows. His name was Jack and he worked in the mines. We often used to go on holiday down there when the girls came home. They were happy there and my eldest still keeps in touch with them today.
