鈥淲e鈥檙e all old here, we all know about the war. You don鈥檛 know about it 鈥 you鈥檙e too young鈥

January 1942

I was conscripted to come and work in a factory 鈥 previously was given 6 weeks engineering training in Guildford Grammar School.

Working in Woking at Inkerman Barracks 鈥 as a nurse for the officer鈥檚 children. They were too old for me to keep me out being conscripted.

Most girls were sent to Coventry but I ended up with Scottish girls in Brum (majority were from Glasgow). Came to work in Baxters, screwmakers, Sheepcote Street then from there to Weyman Street to a proper engineering factory that made machine tools.

I threatened to go home from Baxters because I was bored so they move me.

I met my husband in this second company. He was working in the tool room and so was I.

We got married on Whit Saturday 鈥 early morning in Summer Hill Methodist Chapel in 1943 鈥 we had the weekend for our honeymoon at home.
