I left Leeds to work in Gateshead. It was my choice to go to Gateshead and I worked in a supergrade factory making naval officers uniforms.

It was a frightening time with the bombing. At times I walked the streets and anti-aircraft guns were going. It was a bit rough but one got used to it.
