I live in Bexhill on sea, and sometimes have sat on the beach when my thoughts return to may 1940 sitting on another beach at Dunkirk wondering how I would ever get home. We had escaped from a German party in Belgium and then we broke up I was told by some army police to make my way to the coast. That was helpful. I later found I had walked 28 miles to find the sea. For 2 days with 2 friends I found we wondered waiting for somebody to tell us what to do. After a couple of days a boat came along and took us on board. Where it landed in England I do not know but was put on a train which took me to Salisery Plain and there I stayed for some 3 weeks untill they discovered where the remainder of my company where.
