As a young boy I lived with my grandparents at that lovely little community of Kings Dyke, what great times we had.
During the war years Grandad kept two pigs, one for home consumption and one to go to the government to help the war effort I suppose...One evening Grandad said to give him a hand to cover the rabbits up and get the pigs in the sty. While doing this we heard the unmistakeable sound of a German bomber coming. We just got sight of it when out of nowhere a fighter got behind it and gave it one quick burst of cannon fire and away it went.
As this happened Grandad grabbed me round the waist and flung me in the pigsty with the shout of "Get in there boy and keep your head down".
Don't know who was more surprised, me or the pigs.
