One day stands out in my mind.
I was evacuated from Brighton to Lancashire when I was 6 and my brother was 4 and of course my Mum said to me
"Look after your little brother!"
Sadly they could not put us into the same billet but we were in the same village and saw each other at school. However after about a year the people who looked after my brother moved to a town about 10 miles away.
After a while they wrote to 'Auntie Hunt' who was looking after me and said they would be coming back to the village for a day.
You can imagine how excited I was. I just couldn't settle to anything and was running in all day to ask
"Are they here yet?"
Well it eventually dawned on us that for some reason they weren't coming after all.
I sat in the outside toilet at the bottom of the garden and soaked the poor cat, who I had taken in with me, with my tears.
