We had 2 Morrison shelters because we were a family of 7 children and our parents. We used to use the sitting room shelter as a stage. It was just the right size and height. We'd perform Peter Rabbit, 'King John is not a Bad Man' and nursery rhymes. We'd raid the dressing up box.
It didn't take much to make a princess costume, an old sheet and some net. Then we'd take it in turns to perform and write plays. The legacy lived on - my children all did the same years later!
I also remember knitting some dark mauve gloves with yellow blanket stitch round the pages. It was about the only knitting I did and it was very striking!
