I was in ATS 65 AA Brigade for two and a half years in Wawne. I made some lovely friends who I sadly lost touch with. I was a wireless operator. On our days off our first call in Hull was to the Chinese Laundry to take and collect our collars. We went into Jackson's Grocery Store Cafe for tea. It was here that I first tasted Spam which at the time I thought was wonderful. We also went to the cinema or Hull New Theatre where we saw plays before they went to London. We then got the bus back out to Sutton and walked the rest of the way to Wawne. I was happy to make the best of it.
