I remember the Germans dropping strips of silver paper from their planes to foil the radar. The air raid warden asked us boys to collect it all up and glue it to him.
We had no air raid shelter so we shared ours with the neighbours. There were 8 bunks inside. We were a family of 5 children Mom and Dad our neighbours were 8 children and a mom and dad. My mom was an air radio warden supplied with a steel helmet and stirrup pump to put out the fires. We had an enormous street party a few days after the war was over, everybody contributed about what food they had as it was rationed.
