My brother in law was killed at Monte Casino trying to take the monastery. Years later my wife and I visited the site. We went on a bus trip that stopped in Monte Casino. Somebody stood up and asked if anyone had lost anybody in the war. I told her about my brother in law. She asked me if I knew his number, unfortunately I didn’t but I did know his name, Wilson Cartwright. The bus guide took me with her into a brick building a bit like a bus stop. She looked through a book and spotted the name Wilson Cartwright. She took me through an area full of graves with big marble walls – we found his burial site. It was very unexpected and sad but I’m glad that there was something for him to mark the sacrifice he had given.
