This story has been written onto the ´óÏó´«Ã½ People’s War site by CSV Story gatherer Jessica on behalf of Derek Woodward. They fully understand the terms and conditions of the site.

At Hayle in Pool’s factory a Milawaukee milling machine arrived from the USA. Unable to master the machines’ intricacies, a retired Naval Chief Engine Room (Mr Richards)came to the rescue. (Too old for active service.) He demonstrated the machine’s capabilities and was relegated to the boiler room for the duration. He became a machine shop supervisor at Gloucester Aircraft.
The ATS Officers (girl pilots) had dual status that of a civilian when flying over non belligerent territory e.g. Spain and office status within service bases. Amy Johnson was one who flew without radio contact (banned) and cost her, her life.
