My Father served in RASC from 1939 to 1945. He was demobbed in 1945 and was in 'Z' Reserves, which means he would be one of the first reserves to be called up.
In 1956, during the Suez crisis he received an envelope calling him up for service. I asked him what it meant and he said "it means I have to go away and fight". I was very frightened to think he might go away and get killed.
However, he wrote to the Authorities (he was 37 at the time) and he was made exempt. It would seem it was a precautionary exercise as the Suez crises didn't last long.
I subsequently joined the RASC in 1964 as a Junior Musician (serving for 19 years which obviously made my dad very proud and pleased.
