I remember that mother used to do camouflage nets. The white string used to be delivered and she used to hang them up behind the door. I was fascinated and I filled the needle for her. She used to do them every night and she would complete one a night. Whether it was part of the war effort or not I can't recall but I think there was some reward. What that was I can't remember. She did them out of white string which later became green after dying. Mrs Trembath used to do them, all of white string and hang them on the outside of the door. They were then taken up to the factory, which is now the Meadery, for dyeing and for different pieces of coloured hessian to be laced through them. They were then ready to be used as camouflage nets for the guns.
