My grandpa was a sailor in the Polish navy on a ship called the OPR Blyskavica which means Ship of the Polish Republic, and Blyskavica maens Lightning.
When Germany invaded Poland at the start of the second world war, my grandpa and the other sailors were told to steal the ship from Gyida naval harbour in Poland and sail to great Britan. He arrived at Rosyth near Edinburgh, and offered to help the Royal navy.
During the war he had many adventures and the Blyskavica was one of the ships that helped hunt down and sink the German battleship Bismark.
This was a very important event in the second world war and was called the battle of the ATlantic
