I was 15 yrs old when war broke out, second eldest of seven.
We were first bombed out from Britton St. E.C.1, we then moved to Little Sutton St, E.C.1.
Ican remember incendiary bombs dropping all around the city, and walking through streets dodging smoke and fire, through the night, to find some shelter, with my mum and the kids trailing behind me.
Another time we suffered a direct hit on a shelter we were in, about 20 people lost their lives in that one.
We carried on through the war with doodlebugs and bombing, and then tragically, in the one before the last rocket that fell before war ended in 1945, my mum was killed in Smithfield Meat Market along with her mum and 3year old niece, leaving behind 7 children, the youngest being only 6 years.
