i was on a coach trip with my mum when i heard the first air raid siren, my mum said it was nothing to worry about, but it sounded creepy? i was to here it a lot more in the following years, then all was quite apart from putting sticky tape on windows and a anderson shelter being put in our garden, then in september 1940 a big silve diamond of planes appeared in the sky, and later palls of smoke could be seen at the back of our house coming from somewhere in the woolwich direction, and we watched as thames avon burned and we could see the aircraft bombing it it was about 3 miles away, it was very exciting like a film, that night we could see the glow alround the back of our house, as woolwich the docks and factories burnt, this went on for several nights, some of our friends were evecuated but my dad and mum said we would stick together, we used to go in the air rad shelter at first, but it filled with water so we went under the stairs. school was closed a lot of the time, funny i can remember all these things in detail, yet forget where i put my glasses? as the war progressed lots of bombers shed there load where we lived, because the AA guns were more frequent in london, my hose had some incendries on it twice, the first time my dad put a bucket over it, the fire watcher said that would not work, and whed dad removed the bucket is eyebrows and hair got scorched, as the war progressed many things happened then in 1944 the doodle bugs we used to watch them to see where they dropped, my fater worked at Vickers armstrongs makin machine guns and mum worked in a cafe, so i used to watch the dogfights and play hookey, though half the time the schools were closed anyway, the V2s frightened me because there was no warning, and one day me and my mate were going to school when one fell on callenders cables at belverdere, knoking us of our bikes, we went along the road towards the factory, there was some level crossing gates, there was a man sat against the gates, i said did the V2 fall on callenders, he did not answer, i got closer and asked again, but then i swa there was a big piece of steel embeded in his waistcoat, and is waiscaot was in is chest to, there was no blood? then the police came an shood us off,
there was so many things we saw, and when the war finished, life seemed so dull? i was 13 when the war ended
