I lived in a house facing down albert street. I was in bed, and the first explosive insendry bombs dropped and demolished a row of houses that had been condemed before the war, but were still being lived in! Luckily, there were no deaths.
Our house war a beer house, and it was the only one in the area with a cellar. My father asssured the cellar up, and put electric lights down there. About 20 of the neighbours made their way down there that night! Some came for quite a few nights after that and one old lady, Mrs Cox, slept down there for quite a number of months arriving with her blanket every night!
Following the Incendiary, a few heavy wieght bombs were dropped on Laxtons Orchards. One of the Laxtons who was fire watching was killed. Laxtons fields were where Pollhill avenue is now.
