November 1940 I was just five years old. I had been put to bed with my younger sister. We had been in bed some time when my mother pulled us from bed and put on our siren suits.we were taken to the family air raid shelter in the garden and told to go back to sleep, however a number of neighbours were also in the shelter making it very difficult for us to sleep. After some time the air raid warden came to the shelter, and we all went out into the street where there was a crowd all looking to the south. It looked as if the sun was rising. I now know that it was Coventry burning. This memory is with me to this day after sixty four years.
