In 1938 we came to Penarth for a holiday. Then in 1939, when war broke out mother realised we were living by a steelworks in London, so she wrote to her sister in law in Penarth and we moved to Penarth in 1940. When the Blitz started we were watching the bombs dropping on Cardiff one night my mum shouted get down the stairs. by the time we got down to the basement the ceiling, doors and windows came in and we realised that a landmine had landed on the point in Penarth dock where the amunition ship had sailed earlier that evening rather than the following morning.
John was the S/Sgt in the RAMC.
