From outbreak of war till July 1942 I was in reserved occupation making uniforms then recieved call-up papers and reported to High Lea [Warrington] where we did basic training, then Arbourfield [Reading] there were formed into batteries and went to Weybourne [Norfolk] firing camp. The battery was then posted to Newport South Wales then onto Cardiff. We were billeted on the race course at the start of 1943. From there went to Barry but while returning was found to have pneumonia and spent a month in both hospital and convalescence. I was declared fit and was posted to 474 Barry and stayed until early 1944 when posted to London and was there until April 1945.
When ceasefire declared the gun sites were stood down and redeployed to Northampton and were then split up and given various occupations. I was sent to Manchester as a member of the Pay Corp. There was no room in the billet so I was billited at hime until demob. in April 1946 at Ashton Barracks.
