I was 12 years old and Dad was in the Royal Artillery as an anti-aircraft gunner/spotter. His youngest brother was killed at Anzio leaving a widow and three little girls. I had rarely seen dad during the war years. He was in the second batch to be demobilized in 1946. In the great day there is a knock at the door which I answered. There stood a tall man in a raincoat wearing a trilby and a suit. I said 鈥淚鈥檓 sorry by my dad鈥檚 in the Army 鈥 you can鈥檛 come in.鈥 To my surprise it WAS my dad! He was a great dad!
