In 1944 I was in Rangoon with the KOSBs, looking for Japs to kill. I did not get any, as by then the Japs were beaten. I remember once jumping off a lorry, leaving my rifle behind. The lorry came back with it.
I was homesick. Before the war, I had worked in the ship-yards for Babcock and Wilcox. Every crane in the Rangoon docks had been built at Babcock's.
During the war, the Army paid every man half the wages he earned before call-up. I got only one third, because I was single.
After Rangoon I went to India and up the Kyber Pass. I enjoyed it there.
