This story was given to me by Mrs.Alexandra Steed.
Mrs. Steed came to our class and spoke to us about her memories of sweets in war time. Sweets were rationed in the war and she could only buy 2ozs of clove rock or brandy balls or a tiny dairy milk. Her local sweet shop was Wilsons on the Newtownards Road in Belfast. On Friday night she went down to Wilsons with her 2 brothers and bought some sweets with Sweetie coupons and money. There was no bubblegum but you could get some if you went on the train to Dublin. She had 3d to spend every week. She remembered the day she came home from school and Billy Wilson said you can chose anything you like rationing is over.
