Emma comes from a Gypsy Traveller family and has been living on the West Meadows Traveller site in Ipswich since 1995

Another thing I remember is the air raids. When we heard the sirens my Father used to say: 鈥淵ou鈥檇 better run and get under the hedge.鈥

We used to think it was really exciting but we did run and get under the hedge because there weren鈥檛 any airraid shelters on the road.

Of course we didn鈥檛 realise how serious it was. We could see the planes battling up in the sky and down would come the bombs whistling.

And it was really exciting.

Nowadays I wouldn鈥檛 be excited about it. Like my Father then who鈥檇 lived through the other war. He knew all about it - what it was all about.

But when my mother went out to get food and there was only a little bit of this and a little bit of that us kids had no idea.
