I was a child during the war. I was evacuated to Cornwall, near Falmouth. I was there for a few years, ending up at Penryn. They had land girls and a son in the RAF and one in the marines.
After the war there was a street party at Stokes Croft.
In Cornwall it was very quiet not like the air raids in Bristol.
After a bombing rain, local houses were flattened. There were gas leaks, so Dad took us out of the area and we knocked on a stranger's house and asked if he could sleep four of us - and he did!
I remember the rations and clothing coupons. We ate powdered eggs and spam.
