I would be about age 6/7 years old and we were on a train journey from Bolton to Manchester.
As we passed through the Salford high level, the train slowed down to a crawling pace. The smoke and flames could still be seen from the previous nights bombing.
The bombs had hit a large round tower - I think it was a water tower of some sort. It seemed very exciting to me at the time, but also a little frightening.
We arrived in Manchester safe and sound, looking forward to meeting Father Christmas
