The reason for these events was that a V1 had been shot down, I think by a fighter, and had crashed by the Park gates, severely damaging a number of houses. I remember exploring the damaged buildings with my brother and sister. We found that a great adventure.
Also in Bexhill a bit later, Ukrainians in German uniforms were taking down the anti-invasion defences. They used to make wooden toys for us as children, and were very kind.
I think they were all returned to the USSR after the war and shot by the Soviets as traitors. To us they were warm and freindly.
