Life during World War 2
This story is written by Stuart Duckworth and Tyler Wilkinson about Marian Edmondson鈥檚 experience of World War 2.
We have been to Feniscliffe bank nursing home to interview some people who lived through World War 2. We interviewed Marian Edmondson who served as a cook during the war she served 700 men at her station. When the war started Marian was just 16 years old she listened to the war announcement on the radio in her home town of Colne in Lancashire.
She joined the army and was stationed at Gretna Green. Marian worked in the cooking department rationing did not trouble her she could just help herself to food.
Maria鈥檚 brother had been to India, Egypt and a few other places so he was not as lucky as her to be stationed in 1 place because Maria got to go to lots of dances.
She enjoyed her life in the army but it ended when she got married and came home. When she got home her brother living in Blackburn, Lancashire found her a home for her and her husband to live in. it was a terrace house but she enjoyed life at home because rationing and enemy raids had ended so life was almost back to normal.
There was no work for her when she got back so she went to train as a doctor but the war still hadn鈥檛 ended even though all the raids had stopped.
When the war had ended Maria and her husband went to live in Canada because her husband wanted to go to Australia but she refused but agreed to move to Canada. They lived there for 13 years until moving back to England where she is living happily to this day.
