Our story begins in October, 2004. We both competed in our Counties to be County Cadet of the Year. The Competition involved, interviews, team tasks, quizes and essays, to make sure the right young person was found...
After winning our County rounds, we went through to the National Competition, which is held every January. We competed against 46 Counties, with only 3 winning roles to be assigned. The odds were against us!
To our amazement, after a hectic weekend of more interviews, team tasks, drill, etiquette, and fancy dress discos (quite a mix!) We were appointed Deputy Cadets of the Year, and Nick Slater, was appointed Naitonal Cadet of the Year. We have been involved at many events, including National Competitions, Young First Aider Awards, Buckingham Palace receptions and of course, helping at Caring on the Home Front today.
We have heard stories from Cadets who were on Duty during the war, and have seen how far St John Ambulance has come since then has been inspirational for us. Today we have had a chance to do First Aid Aerobics, Head bandage generation game with Primary Schools and the general public, which is a huge contrast to the strict nursing duties and drill, which we performed during the War.
We thoroughly enjoy ourselves and look forward to the future, saving lives and caring for others.
St John Ambulance, Caring for Life.
