What I remember about the war was when there was an air raid, Mum got us all under the stairs with a bucket and a jug of water (even though the sink was very near)I really needed to go to the toilet and refused to use the buckets, so I had to go and use the outside toilet. I opened the back door and there was a big hole. I stood in the hole and went to the toilet. When I told Mum she didn't believe me and said "Don't be stupid". Anyway she went and had a look and said "Oh! yes there is a big hole!".
When dad came home he had a look and said "You had better get those bloody kids out of there!"
- turned out it was a land mine!
