The start of my career was at Lord's Cricket Ground, where my father worked - I was thought to be a potential cricketer.
I joined up and was in the desert for sometime - Desert Rats - one of the chaps knew that I had an interest in cricket and suggested that I should put a team together.
I coached l6 men until they were proficient - we then played everyone. We managed to get some German POW's to lay the concrete and then we put a mat over it.
We played lots of different teams and won the Canal Defence League - the Commander was so impressed that he had 16 medals struck to commemorate the win.
I did not have the nerve to tell my grandson that one of my medals was actually won for playing cricket.
