July 15th 1941 Tuesday
We caught the 9,35 am due Euston 1.40 pm Arrived at Delamere about 4 pm. Dinky Dhu went mad when she saw us. We had a wash and made some tea, picked loads of red currants when Father arrived, he'd been traveling since 1 o'clock, had to stand all the way from Peterboro ! They'd had the siren every night!!!
July 16th 1941 Wednesday
(Miss Elred buried to-day) I met Edwin at Barking, went up to Victoria to see him off. The week has absolutely flown, we've had a marvelous time, could do with a month!
July 18th 1941 Friday
Telephoned Mother to-day. They had a bad raid last night. Mother in bed her leg is very painful, what a shame although its the best place for her to stay in bed, she is resting-it then. I will write to her over the weekend.

July 19th 1941 Saturday
Very dull this morning but the sun has broken through now. Am going Romford way home.
July 20th 1941 Sunday
Had the time of my life with a free hand in everything, cooked a lovely dinner, roast beef, spinach, new potatoes, Yorkshire pudding. made some scones, also blancmange and red currants for tea. Mr & Mrs Sharp came to tea, they are going on holiday next Saturday.
July 21st 1941 Monday
Mr Melvin picked some R.C. and made them into jam. We had three letters from Mother, she is very well, Auntie is giving her hot lint on her leg every two hours. (Father not well)
July 22nd 1941 Tuesday
Had an appointment with dentist ! Ugh ! Impression taken! Then went to Sid's Mother's. She had a lovely tea waiting for me.
Arrived home 9 pm. Father not too well, very bad head.Will make them into jam. Mother has sent me instructions!
July 24th 1941 Thursday
Ah! Letter from Edwin. He hadn't been able to write, has been out on manoeuvres. Went to dentist again - also next Wednesday and Friday which will be the last I hope. Made 7 lb of jam - my first attempt! Frank phoned may come home next Tuesday. Father a little better but not right even so. Very warm to-day. Still no Jerries thank goodness. Heavy fighting going on with the Russians. Wonder how it will all end?
July 25th 1941 Friday
Marvelous day, very warm. Stan may come to-morrow, so am expecting a call to-day. Must pick lavender and send some off to Mother, bless her, we do miss her.
July 26th 1941 Saturday
Very heavy and oppressive last night, made me feel really off colour. Made some cakes, had a bath and then Father and I sat out in the garden, it was so terribly hot. At 1.30 am I had to leap out of bed was as sick as a dog! Felt like a dish rag to-day. Mr Lewis very kindly came over with the syphon! When I arrived home Stan had cooked the dinner. I managed to eat a little. He suggested I had a little sleep, which I did and felt much better for it. He washed up for me!!
July 27th 1941 Sunday
Went over the road and picked some lavender, also wrote to Mother. It is a lovely day, feel much better but not back to normal yet. Father helped? to pack the lavender and he wrote to Mother too! We had a lovely dinner Sunday, roast pork, marrow, spinach, new potatoes all out of the garden, the veg I mean !!Made a lovely concoction of red c, black c. and rasps with some custard. It was lovely we had it for tea !!
July 28th 1941 Monday
Went to bed last night about.'10.30 pm and was awakened by terrific noise. Couldn't make out what it was but jolly soon realised it was Gunfire ! Father and I never heard the Siren which went about 1.40 am !! We woke at 2 am. Father got up and I did nearly !! Very heavy barrage. I must have fallen asleep again because the All Clear woke me at 4 am First raid on London for 17 weeks!! It was a sharp attack. Mr & Mrs McA went into their shelter.
July 29th 1941 Tuesday
Feeling much better to-day but Father not so well again. Must write to Mother. Miserable morning, raining all night. No alert sounded.
July 31st 1941 Thursday
Went to Dentist, hope next Thursday will be the final appointment. Frank phoned yesterday, he's going home Saturday. He's starting new job, says he will write. Made jam, had some difficulty to get it to set as I did it in double cooker. But hope it will go OK to-night(Friday) 16 lbs black c jam set beautifully. 23 lbs in all, my first attempt !!
