Sheila Fenn (right) with friend Gillian Sweeting (left) in Trafalgar Square in 1945 whilst stationed as drivers in Chelsea with the A.T.S.
This picture was submitted by Sheila.
It was taken by a street photographer. Repeat copies in postcard form would cost 7/6 for 6 copies and 14/6 for 12! So you鈥檇 save sixpence for the bulk order!!
Gillian was at Camberley with me and we were pleased to be posted to Chelsea together. During our off duty we went dancing in the Service Clubs in London and once went to Hamptpn Court Gardens. It was very hot and we took off our stockings (thin cotton) to try and cool off. Had we been seen by the military Police we would have been put on charge for being "improperly dressed while wearing the King's uniform"
We also went to Hyde Park which was a lovely oasis to retreat to. If we were lucky we could get free tickets to a show and I remember we saw A Midsummers night's Dream in the Open Air Theatre. Also Myra hess olaying a mid-day piano recital.
