In 1942 a bomb was dropped in Cross Street Strood, it landed in the centre of the road and deflected into the cellar of the third house on the upside of the road. It failed fortunately to explode and was extricated by the bomb disposal unit, who told us it was the biggest ( barring the one dropped on buckingham palace) dropped in Britain. We children were allowed to sit on it!!!! No photographs were allowed in those days. It was as large round as a barrel.
