I am pictured on the right potatoe picking during World War 2

During the war I was evacuated with the National Savings Dept to Morecombe Lanc.
One year we were asked to volunteer for a weeks potatoes picking near Preston.
We stayed in a hostel and each morning the growers selected a number of us for the task.
As the work progresses the legs and backs got stiffer and stiffer, but thank goodness from excellent treatment from a visiting masseur we survived.
So apart from the pain and discomfort I told myself it was my small contribution to the war effort!!
