Shortly after my Mum and Dad married, Dad has his call up papers and went for a medical in Hanley. The doctor there told him his heart was too bad to fight. As Dad still wanted to do his bit, he joined the St John's Ambulance. He spent many nights on watch, as well as working full time in a factory. Mum at this time did war work making parts for aeroplanes.
