September
Called up for National Service

15th October
Commenced training as a Coder HMS Wellesly, Liverpool

5th December
Joined HMS Victory, Portsmouth and awaited appointment to ship

1941
9th January
Joined HMS Manchester at Newcastle. Ship in dock for 3 months major refit. Granted 14 days leave immediately

10th April
Air raid on Newcastle. Bomb hit ships boom

11th April
Sailed to Rosyth to access damage

17th April
Left Rosyth for trials and Scapa Flow

5th May
Left Scapa Flow for Northern Patrol

8th May
Many ice flows floating by, spotted enemy aircraft but no attack

10th May
Arrived Scapa Flow

18th May
Left Scapa again on Northern Patrol in Denmark Strait

22nd May
Chase on for German battleship 鈥淏ISMARCK鈥

23rd May
Put in at Faeroe Isles for refuelling

25th May
Put in at Iceland for refuelling

27th May
Signal received that the Bismarck was sunk

3rd June
Arrive Scapa
