鈥淢y dad had made a 鈥榙ug out鈥 in the garden (bomb shelter) and the highlight for me aged four was to go out into the garden and wee in the drain by the dugout and look at the search lights in the sky.鈥
鈥淭he week my sister was born, mother was very ill. I was taken by my aunt who was wearing army uniform to a neighbour. I was five and a half. There was fighting in the sky, lights and bombers. My aunt told me that it was a special treat, a firework display especially for my new sister and myself鈥.
