ANYBODY SEEN MONTY BANKS
A group of us were delivering eight special cartons, something to do with radar to Liverpool docks and we had instructions to keep the packets on our laps for the whole journey. We had one soldier called Monty Banks, he was from Liverpool, got off at Crewe station as it stopped there for twenty minutes. He joined the queue to get two mugs of tea and some buns, but the train pulled out. The other soldier now had two cartons to take care of and Monty had to catch a later train. This was not his real name but he was named after a comedian/actor at that time called Monty Banks. It was tradition of nicknames in the army, that anybody with the surname Banks was automatically called Monty. The same applied to other surnames.Any more contributions out there?
