On a day in 1939 or posibbly early 1940 our mother and father took us both to the Liverpool Docks via London. On our arrival in Liverpool we met some people and my brother Anthony Edward and myself were given labels to put on our clothing. We were told that we would be travelling to Canada by liner. After my parents spoke with different people my brother and I were taken on the liner by my parents, they disembarked after a while and stood on the dock waving to us.
A Lady on the liner started talking to us and told us that we would enjoy our new life when we arrived in Canada, after a while we heard some shouting, we looked down to the dock and we saw our mother shouting and waving her arms. She started running along the dock side toward the gangway, they were just about to lift it when they saw our mother, she jumped on the gangplank and came up to us and said that she could not bare to see us go away, she took us off the liner and after my parents spoke with various people we went and got on a train back to out home in Bognor Regis.
After a short while back at home we heard on the news that the ship had been sunk by a German U Boat and there were no survivors.
We could not thank our parents enough, the sad thing for my brother and I was that my mother died in 1947. I was 12 and my brother was 14 so we were still young when she died.
To this day I still have not found the name of the ship, I was wondering if you could help me, could you possibly find her name for me.
The strange thing is that when I became seventeen I joined the Royal Navy, and my brother joined the Royal Air Force, I was disabled out of the Royal Navy after twenty years and five months.
I hope you can help me.
Yours.
