I am now 71 years old, at the age of 11 I returned home after having been evacuated since 1940. I was returning home on VE day to Manchester because I had won a place in a MAnchester High SChool.

As I crossed Crewe Station, a frighted and confused young boy the bottom of my gas masked box (Brown Cardboard)fell open and all the treasures of a little boy scattered over the platform. I just bust into tears. Alone and not sure were I was going. Trying to collect all my childish possessions and my gas mask as peopel rushed passed me was a nighmare. I still have the dream of that event to this day and still wake up in tears.
