I was evacuated to Blaenavon in South Wales at the age of 8 in June 1940. We all thought this was the start of a jolly day out! I went with my elder brother and when we got to Blaenavon we were taken to a hall. We were all lined up and people came and selected who they wanted. I was separated from my elder brother. The family I was billeted with were good and kind people. Some months later the couple where I was billeted were killed in an accident and I was sent back to Dover.
