In July 1945, ten ships, most of them Liberty ships, were being loaded in Bidstone Docks with Airfield construction equipment. Fourteen RAF personnel were assigned to each ship. Quarters to accommodate them had been built in the rear hold. I along with one officer, two NCOs and ten other airmen were on board the Samstrule. We sailed from Liverpool on the morning of July 22nd, bound for Ockinowa in the Far East. Shortly after we left the Panama Canal and entered the Pacific Ocean the war in the Far East ended and we were diverted to Singapore after calling at Eniwetock and Leyte in the Philippines. We arrived in Singapore harour on October 2nd abd disembarked on October 12th. It would be great to contact some of the other chaps and chat about that journey. I remember our officer was P/O Houston and the ships captains name was Mr Inch.
