in 1941, Leonard and Frederick from Mapperley (two brothers) volunteered. They joined "H.M.S. Pepperpot" and the "Tank Landing Craft". in 1941 they had a joint leave, which they celebrated in Mapperley. They went to the "Bellevue" pub for a drink, where Freddie got two pints and joined the other people n the pub. However, the sirens went. Everyone got up and left in an orderly manner apart from Freddie and Lenny. They looked at each other, looked at all the remains of the drinks on the table and with great accord they drank the lot! then they scarpered!!
