My name is Doreen Smith, and I’m 74.
I was in the same house during the war that I live in now, in Connah’s Quay. I remember running down the streets, afraid, but we all stuck together. We all played together. We made little tents, and things like that.
My mum didn’t work, because there were five children. So that was a big job! We helped. I helped in the house and the garden.
My dad was in Courtaulds. He worked there.
But we just went to places, playing. We were children who played, no trouble, or fighting or falling out. We’d go in the street, and say ‘The bombs are dropping’, and we’d all go, and all run, so we went through all that, but we all came back from it.
