In 1944, as a 7year old at our local infants' school I was sent to colledt the registers from the other classes. One teacher was showing her children a banana, something we had never seen before. She managed to divide it so that everyone had a taste and I was lucky enough to be included. So some 40 infants had a thin sliver each.
