Eric Mason with his Sopwith Snipe in Turkey, 1922
This is just a brief addition to the family history story that is on my personal page. I wanted to add one of the last photographs taken of my grandfather before he died on active service in Aden in 1922. I believe that the photo shows him with the actual aircraft he died in, a Sopwith Snipe. Although it was taken in Turkey, during the Chanak Crisis, Eric's squadron was moved, by ship through the Suez Canal, to Aden just after the picture was taken.
This photo was restored and enhanced from a set of tiny contact prints that were found in the small box of personal possessions that were returned to my grandmother after Eric died.
Eric Mason was the father of George Anthony Mason (my father), the pilot who was rescued by Gordon Cowell and William Chick in Tricia Cowell's story.
