I was eight years old and I distinctly remember that we were going to enter the Anderson shelter in next door's garden. I was taking my time to go through the gate and fence, and then lumps of cement started flying off the house!
I looked up and saw the front view of a German fighter - possibly a messerschmit log. He was firing at me! He missed!
I ran into the shelter as fast as I could.
The next time I saw a frontal view was when I was watching a doodlebug coming straight for me - but it looped over and handed in the next street.
We went to London to see my nan and a siren went off. Bombs started to drop all around us and my mum droppe dmy younger brother over a brick wall for protection. She had inadvertently dropped in a static water tank. A passing warden found him!
